WHAT is Bowen?

The bowen technique is a soft tissue remedial therapy used by hundreds of thousands of people in over 30 countries for help in dealing with the misery of pain, injury and stress related conditions.

Clients visiting Joanna have found it particularly helpful in relieving symptoms of sciatica, frozen shoulder, migraine, and any kind of back or neck pain.  Typically clients report a sense of wellbeing, pain relief and return of energy.

It is drug free, non invasive ..............

Using fingers and thumbs, Joanna makes small rolling movements over the muscles, tendons, ligaments and soft tissue at precise points over the whole body including the spine. Many of the moves are over recognised trigger points, acupuncture points, neurolymphatic reflex points, Golgi receptor cells and joint proprioreceptors Gentle fascia work and spinal work is also often incorporated. The body will naturally auto-regulate itself where possible.

One of the most profound effects Bowen seems to have is in shifting the Autonomic Nervous System - which controls over 80% of bodily functions - from sympathetic to parasympathetic dominance releasing stress at very deep level evidenced with Robert Schleip's studies. The subtle but dynamic process allows the body to address imbalances in functions and chemical compositions and, as far as possible, restore homeostasis within the body. This could explain why even a small number of Bowen treatments bring long lasting relief to symptoms for all types of complaints.

No force is needed to encourage muscles to relax allowing bones to adjust and lessen pressure on structures leading to a decrease in pain.

Bowen is generally pleasant to receive, each session lasting 40-45 minutes depending on the age of the client and the nature of their condition. Between each series of moves the body is given periods of rest to allow it to absorb the information it has received and initiate change.

It is suitable for all ages and for pregnant women.
